Two archival photographs of Gadi Eisenkot inside a tunnel that the Israeli army said Hezbollah had dug from Lebanon toward Israel have resurfaced. They were published by Walla on January 13, 2019, and taken while he was inspecting the tunnel during Operation Northern Shield, which began in December 2018. The photographs show Eisenkot and an Israeli officer inside the tunnel, but do not establish whether the section pictured is in Lebanon or Israel. The media revisited them after President Isaac Herzog tasked Eisenkot with forming a government, following recommendations from 67 lawmakers that he be given the task, compared with 46 who recommended Benjamin Netanyahu.
