Libya's Mental Health Strategy 2030

Libya's Mental Health Strategy 2030

The Ministry of Health of the Government of National Unity announced details of its efforts to promote mental health on the occasion of World Mental Health Day. These efforts focused on expanding treatment services and specialized assessments, as well as prevention programs and psychosocial support across the country. The Ministry emphasized the importance of society listening to individuals with psychological experiences and involving them in developing policies and services to ensure more humane care. Among the initiatives was the development of the National Mental Health Strategy 2024–2030 and the integration of mental health into school health programs. Specialized services are provided at Al-Razi Hospital, which, during the first half of 2026, received over 10,000 outpatient cases and 240 inpatient cases. The hospital conducted more than 2,400 intelligence tests and numerous therapy sessions. Additionally, the Ministry enhanced emergency mental health services through the Emergency Medicine and Support Center to facilitate access to treatment and reduce stigma. Efforts also include supporting those affected by disasters and crises, with a focus on integrating psychosocial care throughout all life stages to improve the quality of care and reinforce the importance of listening and consulting with those affected in order to better policies and mental health services.
