UN Salutes MINURSO at 35
UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix praised the staff of the MINURSO mission after its operations were halted following the non-renewal of its mandate, commending 35 years of service to the people of Western Sahara. He also paid tribute to 20 peacekeepers who died while on duty: 11 in accidents, eight from illness, and one whose cause of death was undetermined. No deaths resulted from hostile acts.
