Nigel de Jong, sporting director of the Dutch Football Association, expressed his disappointment after Ayoub Oufkir chose to represent Morocco, despite the association having followed his development and tried to persuade him to continue his international career with the Netherlands. De Jong said the decision came as a surprise, particularly as both sides had reaffirmed their mutual trust a week before the international break. Coach Mohamed Ouahbi’s call-up, and the player’s acceptance, brought the Netherlands’ efforts to recruit him to an end.
