The article discusses statements made by Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz regarding Israel's intention to forcibly relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. He pointed to existing arrangements and plans to transfer the population to unspecified countries, potentially via the Erez Crossing in northern Gaza instead of the Rafah Crossing on the Egyptian border. This comes as part of Israel's efforts to explore alternative routes for eviction operations, aiming to shift them away from the Egyptian border. Egypt has categorically rejected any project that threatens the Palestinian cause and has been kept informed of these arrangements. Despite ongoing talk about the "Rafah option," recent movements and repeated references to Erez reflect an Israeli attempt to pave the way for a possible forced displacement. The issue remains a concern for Israeli decision-makers, especially with continued American support, even as the Palestinian community faces harsh conditions of blockade and bombing, making genuine voluntary migration implausible.
