Reports circulated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refrained from speaking with the Chief of Staff in the early hours of Hamas's attack on October 7, 2023, as he held a situation assessment at 9:45 a.m. instead of engaging in immediate communication. It was revealed that Netanyahu received two phone calls prior to the attack but was not asked to contact the Chief of Staff at that time, due to concerns about his reaction if he were informed of the attack's onset, as officials believed Hamas's actions were horrific. Netanyahu also pointed out that security officials warned against activating the army or deploying the air force at that moment to prevent an unexpected escalation, and he confirmed that his delay in reporting the events led to changes in how the situation unfolded. This comes amid controversy following statements by his wife, Sara Netanyahu, who accused a former politician of having prior knowledge, prompting criticism and threats of legal action.
