An Israeli report revealed that the Israel Defense Forces are facing a severe financial crisis, leading to a temporary halt in several tank battalions due to a shortage of spare parts. There is also a potential stoppage in the production of "Merkava" shells and other artillery and mortar lines in the coming months. The crisis has caused a backlog of damaged vehicles that are unusable in the areas and has diminished the army’s ability to transport soldiers. The military’s debts to defense industries have exceeded 15 billion shekels, threatening operational readiness and the army’s ability to manage a multi-front war. The crisis has also impacted the intelligence division, with stockpiles reduced and some contracts canceled, accompanied by warnings of significant effects on the army’s capacity to confront Iran and other security issues. These challenges come amid an increase in the budget to 183 billion shekels, up from 143 billion in 2026, but not all of the additional funds have been allocated, deepening the financial crisis and causing a decline in military preparedness.
