The article reviews Israel's strategic shift in the West Bank, where the transition is from managing the occupation to engineering comprehensive control, with the aim of creating a de facto situation on the ground that is difficult to dismantle later. This includes expanding settlements, shifting civil authorities, linking settlement blocs with a network of strategic roads, and gradually transferring security and political control without the need for an official declaration. This approach seeks to reduce the cost of Palestinian presence and strengthen settlement permanence, while potentially leading to an explosion of resistance due to ongoing escalation. Such a scenario could erode Palestinian boundaries and expand Israeli control. The article expresses concern that this approach may continue to sustain the occupation and turn the Palestinian project into an enduring reality, thereby threatening the future of a Palestinian state.
