The article refers to a court ruling in Seoul sentencing a South Korean man to five years in prison for espionage on behalf of North Korea. It was found that the man (43 years old) received orders from a North Korean agent via the Telegram app in 2021 to gather information about defectors from North Korea and their activities, receiving approximately 660 million won (roughly $479,346) in cryptocurrency. He also proposed to the head of a group of defectors to create a cryptocurrency wallet and received Bitcoin donations, then sent images and videos showing anti-Pyongyang posts. The verdict is part of an escalation in tensions between North and South Korea, with authorities emphasizing ongoing surveillance of individuals involved in espionage activities.
