Economic impact of limited vocational training
The article highlights the significant gap between the concept of skills and professional work in the Arab world compared to advanced countries. It points out that the vocational sector suffers from a lack of institutional qualification and underestimates its value socially and economically. Many workers in manual trades have acquired their skills informally through personal experience, without recognized certificates or formal training, which makes it difficult for consumers to distinguish between professionals and amateurs. The article emphasizes that global change—particularly with the development of artificial intelligence and technology—necessitates enhancing vocational education and formal training to improve skill levels. Skilled workers are valued more in the market and are fundamental to building a strong economy, as seen in countries like Japan, China, and Germany. It also stresses that neglecting the recognition of manual trades as a professional career path threatens the future economic development of the Arab world.
