Footage shown in the investigation *What Lies Hidden Is Greater* showed Mohammed Deif standing and walking inside a tunnel in Gaza and praying normally—contradicting the Israeli account, which had portrayed him as incapacitated and confined to a wheelchair since the 2006 assassination attempt. The footage also documented him overseeing military plans and directing battles, revealing that he continued to play a leadership role. A former Shin Bet official acknowledged that the agency’s assessments of Deif’s condition had been wrong. The investigation links this misleading account to the secrecy surrounding Deif’s movements and the concealment and security measures that made him difficult to track.
