Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday inaugurated the first Palestinian cement plant, in Jericho. The project is a partnership between the Palestinian Investment Fund and the Issa Khoury Group for Mining and Construction Industries, and development began in 2022. The plant aims to replace cement imports with local production, strengthen the national industry and create jobs. It is also expected to help meet the needs of Gaza’s reconstruction. Abbas toured the plant and reviewed the stages of production before pressing a button to mark the start-up of the machinery.
