WhatsApp introduces username reservation for number-free chats
Meta has confirmed that the WhatsApp platform will gradually roll out a feature allowing users to reserve usernames, enabling communication without revealing their personal phone numbers. The feature allows selecting a unique username between 3 to 35 characters, with security measures in place to prevent random discovery of names and to restrict the reservation of sensitive names associated with celebrities and organizations. While a phone number will still be necessary to create the account, it will remain hidden once the feature is fully activated.
