Oman hosted a meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council foreign ministers and Iran in the city of Salalah to discuss the future of the Strait of Hormuz. The aim was to de-escalate tensions related to this vital channel for shipping and energy. This comes after previous talks between Muscat and Tehran regarding the management of vessel movements, during which Oman proposed a temporary navigational corridor to resolve the crisis, seeking to ensure the flow of oil and reduce the risk of conflict. Oman called for the participation of all Gulf countries in the navigation arrangements, while Bahrain declined to join until its relations with Iran were restored. Both emphasized the importance of adhering to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea to guarantee freedom of passage for ships. The efforts are focused on achieving stability and security in global energy supplies and on reducing the likelihood of escalation in this strategic strait.
