The Ministry of Public Health in Qatar announced the inclusion of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in the national school immunization campaign. The goal is to provide early prevention against the high-risk types of the virus and reduce the healthcare burden associated with cancerous diseases. The campaign targets more than 75,000 students from eighth, ninth, and tenth grades across 301 schools. The first phase will run from September 20, 2023, to November 18, 2026, followed by the second phase in April and May 2027. The vaccine is approved by the World Health Organization and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, boasting an effectiveness rate exceeding 90%, with mild side effects primarily local or temporary. Vaccination is voluntary and requires parental consent. It will be administered within school health rooms to ensure safe execution and proper awareness. The initiative aims to strengthen immunity and lower the risk of cancers associated with the virus.
