Qur’an Contests Begin
Competitions in the Qur’an Memorization Categories division of the 31st Sheikh Jassim Competition have begun in Qatar, with 1,073 contestants taking part—454 males and 619 females. They are competing in five categories, memorizing 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 parts of the Qur’an. The tests will run for four days, through November 3, at Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque for male contestants and the Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance for female contestants. The tests are being conducted before 16 judging panels, made up entirely of Qatari judges, both men and women. Under the competition rules, winners may advance to higher categories.
