The European Union announced its support for France and Spain in combating wildfires by activating the European Civil Protection Mechanism, following the widespread fires that forced over 300,000 people to evacuate. Seven airplanes and four helicopters from different European countries have been deployed in France, along with six aircraft from Greece, Italy, and Spain, in addition to 134 firefighters and 41 machines from Portugal. The Copernicus emergency mapping service is also being used to support response efforts, while the European Coordination Center continues to assess needs and coordinate aid, with a liaison officer in France to enhance cooperation. Preventive measures taken before the wildfire season, such as deploying European firefighting teams, have helped accelerate the response. The RescueEU stockpiles currently include 22 aircraft and five helicopters for fighting wildfires, activated when the resources of participating countries are insufficient.
