Al-Takhassusi Hospital Uses Laser Therapy for Brain Conditions
King Faisal Specialist Hospital has successfully implemented Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT) for the first time in the Kingdom, to treat drug-resistant focal epilepsy and certain brain tumors. This minimally invasive surgical procedure involves inserting thin laser fibers into the brain under magnetic resonance imaging guidance. The first case demonstrated that the patient left the hospital in less than 24 hours without complications, reflecting the technique's effectiveness in reducing hospitalization time and enabling rapid recovery. A comprehensive assessment is underway to select suitable candidates for this procedure. The hospital is also working to expand its use and train medical staff to increase the number of beneficiaries, as part of its efforts to develop treatment options and improve the quality of healthcare services.
