Saudi Water Authority localizes energy recovery device production
The Saudi Water Authority has announced the opening of the first international plant outside the United States for producing energy recovery devices used in water desalination industry. The goal is to improve plant efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and cut costs. Production is set to start in the first quarter of 2027, with a capacity of 2,000 devices annually to meet the local demand of around 1,200 devices. Additionally, 40% of the output will be exported to Gulf, African, and Asian markets. The project contributes to strengthening supply security, with an expected contribution of over 137 million SAR to the national GDP by 2033. It will also create more than 50 jobs with an localization rate exceeding 80%. This step is part of expansion efforts to support the water industry, achieve self-sufficiency, and enhance the Kingdom’s position as a regional hub for desalination technology manufacturing.
