Artem under scrutiny
The three official matches Ukrainian Artem Bondarenko played for Shakhtar Donetsk before joining Al Ahli raise questions about his eligibility to play for a third club in the same season under FIFA regulations. The rules allow a player to be registered with three clubs, but generally limit him to making official appearances for two. An exception relating to the overlap between the Ukrainian and Saudi league seasons could allow him to play for a third club, provided the contractual and registration requirements are met. The difference in the leagues’ schedules does not automatically determine Bondarenko’s eligibility, and the issue could affect Al Ahli’s options in the winter transfer market.
