New English Rule Bans Stoppage Time
The clubs and regulatory bodies in the English Premier League have launched experimental procedures to limit goalkeepers' exploitation of tactical stoppages, aiming to enhance the flow of matches and protect players' safety. These measures include the implementation of strict rules such as granting the injured player 10 seconds to make a decision and requiring goalkeepers to remain outside the field for at least one minute after play resumes, in order to reduce the conceptual pauses used by goalkeepers to influence the course of the game. The organizing authorities, in coordination with IFAB, will assess the success of this trial throughout the season, especially following previous accusations of referees unfairly using tactical stoppages.
