Defense Ministry strikes Iraq militias targeting oil facilities in Saudi Arabia
The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that its military forces recently destroyed a number of drones that attempted to target petroleum facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh. These attacks originated from Iraqi territory and were carried out by Iran-backed militias. In response, the Saudi armed forces, in coordination with the U.S. Central Command, conducted targeted strikes against specific sites belonging to those militias within Iraqi territory, in retaliation for the ongoing assaults. The Kingdom affirmed that its response was lawful under international law and clarified that it does not seek escalation but will robustly defend itself and its interests. It also indicated that the attacks were aimed at threatening the security of its vital infrastructure.
