Kingdom affirms strikes targeted Iraq
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the strikes carried out by the Saudi armed forces in coordination with the U.S. Central Command were in response to an attack on oil facilities within the Kingdom. These actions are justified as a right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. The Ministry explained that Iran-backed militias in Iraq sought to escalate tensions and violate Saudi sovereignty, despite the Kingdom's efforts to de-escalate the situation. It further stated that Saudi Arabia does not aim to provoke conflict but will take the necessary measures to protect its territory and its people if it faces any future attacks.
