Qassim launches Naeimi sheep project
A model project has been established to breed the Naemi sheep breed in the Al-Qassim region with the goal of reaching 20,000 head of sheep and producing over 221,000 kilograms of meat annually. This initiative is part of the strategy to develop the livestock sector to achieve self-sufficiency and food security in Saudi Arabia, in line with Vision 2030. The project includes the construction of model barns, laboratories, and administrative facilities. In the second phase, an automated slaughterhouse will be developed to enhance the integration of production processes and utilize animal by-products efficiently. The project also aims to support small breeders and promote rural development, with 30% of the production allocated to a contractual farming system. The Naemi breed was chosen for its advantages in meat production, disease resistance, and meat quality.
