Russia Blames Telegram Founder for Supporting Terrorism
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has leveled charges against Telegram founder Pavel Durov, accusing him of facilitating terrorist activities, and has issued an international arrest warrant for him. This move increases pressure on the platform, which is used by over a billion people worldwide. These allegations stem from ongoing tensions between Moscow and Telegram, with authorities accusing the app of neglecting to remove content linked to extremist and terrorist groups, especially those used to plan sabotage operations within Russia. However, Durov has not made any official statements in response. He is also facing investigations in France for allegedly insufficient cooperation with security agencies. Telegram is one of the most prominent communication platforms globally and has played an important role during conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine war, but government disputes are placing it under increasing pressure.
