Fed maintains rates despite calls to increase

The U.S. Federal Reserve decided to keep its main interest rate steady within a range of 3.5% to 3.75%, despite opposition from three members of the board who insisted on raising it to combat the ongoing inflation exceeding the institution’s 2% target. The dissenting voices came from regional bank presidents, who emphasized the need for tighter monetary policy as inflation persists—driven by tariffs and rising energy prices—and continues to burden households. Although there are no clear signals about potential future rate hikes, forecasts suggest a possibility of an increase in September if inflation persists, with ongoing focus on price stability and economic growth.
