I Must Be Busy and Important
The writing discusses the phenomenon of repeatedly saying "I'm busy" as an indicator of social status and as a way to emphasize the importance of being occupied in people's lives. It explains that being busy has become a means of self-assertion, and that technology has contributed to filling every free moment, leading to a loss of the ability to enjoy quiet, spontaneous time. It points out that some commitments may be superficial or unnecessary, and that focus should be on the quality of time rather than the number of tasks or attending events. It affirms that truly having leisure time gains a new value, allowing for concentration on relationships and personal ideas, and enhancing self-awareness. Finally, it questions whether our lives are built on achievement or on living the moments we choose, stressing that the true value of life comes from the people, ideas, and present moments, not from continuous busyness.
