The United Arab Emirates has announced the suspension of all its commercial and financial dealings with Iran until further notice, in response to Tehran’s launch of ballistic missiles targeting its territories. This decision comes after two projectiles fell into Dubai’s territorial waters and following the UAE’s confirmation that Iran is not responsible for the incident. Meanwhile, Tehran relies on trade with the UAE to meet its essential needs and for foreign currency inflows. The UAE’s measure aims to increase economic pressure on Iran, which is suffering from decreased production, falling oil exports, and rising inflation. At the same time, talks continue between the UAE and the United States to enhance security and navigation in critical waterways, amid rising global oil prices due to concerns over the deterioration of shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
