The article discusses the murder of Shummaran Al-Yasri, known as "Abu Gatae'," as a staged event that took place in 1981 while he was heading to visit his son in Europe. It was widely believed that Iraqi intelligence was responsible, given his opposition to the Saddam regime and his influential media and political roles. The investigation later confirmed that his death was the result of a deliberate intelligence operation. At the time, rumors circulated, one of which claimed he had died in a regular traffic accident, to create a cover story and facilitate his assassination without provoking a reaction. The article highlights that his assassination represents a significant loss for Iraqi culture and nationalism. It also reveals that the regime attempted to justify his killing by spreading rumors to conceal the crime, but the truth eventually surfaced and was confirmed. The article emphasizes Yasri’s importance as a national and media symbol and confirms that Saddam’s regime lost a great deal of credibility both locally and internationally because of it.
