A strong earthquake struck, initially registering a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale, centered northwest of Opaḥuatsha in Peru, at a depth of 66 to 108 kilometers. The quake caused rocks and soil to fall in the Ayacucho region and was felt in several cities, including Cusco, Arequipa, and Lima, where residents were quickly evacuated for safety. The earthquake comes after a series of devastating tremors in the area since June, resulting in widespread damage and human impacts in neighboring countries such as Venezuela and Colombia.
