The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and several other Islamic countries issued a statement strongly condemning the illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly the E1 settlement plan east of Jerusalem. They affirmed that these policies represent a dangerous escalation threatening the territorial contiguity of the Palestinian state and jeopardizing the possibility of establishing an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders. They warned that continued settlement expansion undermines peace efforts, constitutes a violation of international law and United Nations resolutions, and called for a halt to all settlement activities and for sanctions against those responsible. They also urged the international community to take urgent action to protect Palestinian rights and to achieve peace based on a two-state solution.
