Robots Improve Knee Surgery Precision
The study indicates that using robots in knee replacement procedures enhances the precision of placing the artificial joint. However, no improvement was observed in patients' recovery, mobility, or pain levels during the first year after surgery. The experiment involved 339 patients treated by 33 surgeons across 10 British hospitals, comparing traditional surgery with robotic-assisted procedures. Although the technology resulted in greater accuracy, the recovery outcomes and physical functions were similar after 12 months, with an increase in surgical time and cost by approximately $950, without adding any risk. Experts stated that while robots help improve surgical accuracy, they have not demonstrated immediate benefits for patient outcomes.
