Alimi Highlights Coastal Protection Importance
The Yemeni government warns of escalating Houthi activities in the Western Coast, especially near Bab al-Mandeb Strait, which is a vital international pathway. Such escalation impacts global trade movement and regional security. The Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council confirmed that this escalation aims to enhance the Houthis' ability to influence Bab al-Mandeb and the Red Sea, linked to Iran's efforts to expand the group's influence. The area has seen increasing clashes since September 2026, following a period of ceasefire, and holds strategic importance due to its proximity to Bab al-Mandeb Strait and its passage through the Red Sea.
