Al-Qaeda restructures in Afghanistan
The Washington Post reported that Al-Qaeda is reorganizing its ranks in Afghanistan, taking advantage of the Taliban's return to power and the security vacuum created by the withdrawal of American and international forces in 2021. The organization is working on establishing new training camps and increasing its operational and logistical capabilities, currently focusing on digital recruitment and forming sleeper cells rather than sending fighters across borders. There are concerns that this global laxity may give the organization an opportunity to regain its offensive strength and threaten international security, as the Taliban attempt to balance their foreign relations and provide a safe haven for this organization.
