The Professional Referees' Association admitted there was an error in the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decision during the Manchester derby, when Erling Haaland's goal for Manchester City was awarded despite doubts over an offside. This occurred after the assistant referee indicated an offside before the VAR review confirmed the goal's validity. The association also launched an investigation into Enzo Fernández's case, as he did not touch the ball, but his positioning was assessed for an offside impact. They confirmed they have been in contact with both clubs to address the mistake. This led to widespread controversy, especially since Manchester City won despite playing part of the match with ten players.
