AI develops hard-to-detect scam calls

The article explains that the use of artificial intelligence in producing realistic and localized voices poses a threat to the security of fraudulent calls. scammers can mimic familiar dialects and vocal nuances in a way that is difficult to detect, thereby enhancing the credibility of fraud schemes and undermining traditional verification methods. Studies show that voice cloning techniques rely on short recordings and are increasingly used to build trust with victims, which raises the likelihood of banking scams or phone fraud. Official bodies, such as the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, recommend not relying solely on the owner's voice for verification, but instead contacting the bank or relevant party independently to confirm identity. They also advise caution against sharing passwords or sensitive information with any caller who raises suspicion.
