Prophet's Mosque Shade System
The courtyards of the Prophet’s Mosque feature 250 movable umbrellas covering more than 143,000 square metres, providing shade and protection from the sun and rain for over 228,000 worshippers and visitors. The umbrellas open automatically at sunrise and close before sunset. Their design incorporates resistance to wind, rain and fire, as well as water-drainage systems. The system also includes 436 misting fans and more than 1,000 lighting units, all managed from a central control room to adapt operations to weather conditions and the needs of the courtyards.
