The head coach of Al-Diriyah's first football team, Portuguese Bruno Lages, spoke about the controversy surrounding the disallowed penalty awarded to his forward, Darwin Nunez, during his team's match against Qadsia in the fifth round of the Saudi Pro League. Lages confirmed that the penalty was correct and that many messages he received after the game support the validity of the referee’s decision, noting that technology had led to its cancellation without a clear reason. He also expressed his surprise at the referee's decision and believed that his team deserved a better result, as they created numerous opportunities, including one for Darwin and a free kick close to the post. He emphasized that the outcome could have changed had they scored before the 80th minute. Lages underscored the importance of team development and learning from matches, mentioning that the congested match schedule affected their performance. He described Qadsia as a team representing the level of play his team aspires to reach in the coming years. The team has collected seven points after two losses and one draw, with refereeing decisions impacting their results.
