It was expected that Karim Benzema, the French football star, would return to Olympique Lyonnais, the French club where he started his career, even willing to play for free and without financial compensation, out of love for the club and the city of Lyon. However, his contractual commitment with Al-Hilal Saudi Club until 2030 obstructed this transfer, especially since Benzema became a free agent a week ago after terminating his contract with Al-Hilal, but he is unable to play in France or outside Saudi Arabia due to his promotional commitments with the Saudi League until 2030. Despite his love for the club and his desire to return, contractual restrictions—including his role as an ambassador for the Saudi League—may push him towards retirement, even though his return would have enhanced Lyon’s marketing value. Up to now, the dream of a comeback remains unfulfilled, bound by contractual constraints and his commitments to Saudi Arabia.
