His nomination comes after his contribution to Morocco's qualification to the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup and reaching the Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal. The list includes 10 goalkeepers, among them three Spaniards, as well as Belgian Thibaut Courtois and Senegalese Édouard Mendy, with a surprising inclusion of Fozinia, the goalkeeper from Cape Verde. The award ceremony will take place in London on October 26. Bounou’s nomination reflects his achievements and his significant impact on his teams’ successes.
