UEFA Responds to Real Madrid's Claims
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced that it has received the documents submitted by Real Madrid regarding the investigations related to the Niegreira case, the former Vice President of the Technical Committee of Referees in the Spanish Football Federation. These documents pertain to payments from Barcelona to companies associated with him, amounting to over €7.5 million between 2001 and 2018, in exchange for consulting services and technical reports. This development comes after Real Madrid escalated the case to the European level, due to limited progress at the local level, in an effort for European sports authorities to examine the implications of the case, which involves allegations of corruption and investigations into potential match-fixing. No official disciplinary action has yet been announced against Barcelona, but the documents are currently under review as part of the ongoing investigations.
