Reasons Argentina cannot block Messi's number 10
Until now, Argentina has been unable to permanently retire the number 10 worn by Lionel Messi due to FIFA regulations that mandate registering numbers from 1 to 26 in major tournaments. This means the jersey will be available for use with the national team at the 2030 World Cup. Although the federation and Argentina wish to honor Messi after his international retirement, the number will remain accessible for other players in official competitions, while it will be left vacant for friendly matches. It is possible that the number will be assigned to midfielder Nico Bazz if coach Lionel Scaloni remains in his position, but this has not been decided yet. In Messi’s official farewell match against Benin in October, the number will not be assigned to any player.
