Palestinian players dominate half of Syrian clubs
This season, the football transfer market in Syria has witnessed a noticeable increase in the number of Palestinian players joining clubs. This is due to a decision by the Syrian Football Federation to treat Palestinians as local players rather than foreigners, allowing clubs to sign an unlimited number of Palestinians without affecting the foreign player limit (which is four players, with one foreign goalkeeper exemption). The most prominent club to make such transfers is Al-Fatwa Club, which signed five Palestinian players, although some other clubs have not finalized agreements or have retracted for various reasons. This shift began after the Syrian Federation amended its contractual relations with Palestinians in August 2026, as part of a broader educational policy in the region that considers Palestinians as local players, following previous experiences in Egypt and Libya.
