Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has begun shaping the national team for life after captain Lionel Messi’s retirement, announcing a 28-man squad for friendlies against Uruguay and Costa Rica. The squad includes Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernández and Julián Álvarez. Aaron Anselmino has received his first call-up, while Gonzalo Montiel and Mariano Troilo return. Lautaro Martínez and Cristian Romero are out with injuries, and Emiliano Martínez’s fitness is being assessed. Argentina will face Uruguay on November 13 at La Bombonera, then Costa Rica on November 17 in Córdoba. Messi ended his international career with 126 goals in 208 appearances, setting two records.
