Ronaldo 23-Year Betrayal
Cristiano Ronaldo announced his retirement from international football after a 23-year career that began in 2003, saying it was time to pass the No. 7 shirt on to the next generation. The decision came after a falling-out with Portugal coach Jorge Jesus, following Ronaldo’s exclusion from a Nations League match. Ronaldo left the national team camp and then accused the coach of betraying his trust, before the Portuguese Football Federation suspended him for 30 days and fined him €255. Ronaldo made 234 international appearances, scoring 146 goals. He won Euro 2016 and became the first player to score at six editions of the World Cup.
