Fahad Al-Harifi, the former Al-Nassr star, rejected considering Cristiano Ronaldo a historical captain of the club and instead chose Youssef Khamis because of his closeness and influence within the team. Al-Harifi based his reasons for selecting Khamis as captain despite Ronaldo wearing the armband since his arrival in January 2023 and contributing to the club’s victory in the Saudi Pro League after a 7-year absence. Youssef Khamis had previously expressed his dissatisfaction with Ronaldo's impact on the team’s stability, as well as his influence on team cohesion and the coach's directives.
