A Spanish news report revealed that the delay in the official announcement of José Mourinho's appointment as Real Madrid's coach is due to the need to pay Benfica a €15 million penalty clause. This requires their approval and notification to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission, which led to the delay in the announcement. Mourinho arrived in Madrid today to officially begin his duties, but his appointment will not be announced until the Portuguese club receives the payment. Real Madrid is expected to release an official statement regarding Arbeloa's departure and a comment on Mourinho's appointment.
