The White House, which was accustomed to hosting light sporting events, was preparing to host a mixed martial arts (MMA) fight of the "UFC" in the South Lawn, as part of President Donald Trump's 80th birthday celebrations. The cage and necessary facilities for this major event had been set up, marking the first of its kind at this location. The aim was to incorporate intense combat sports into the traditions of the White House. The report indicates that the athletic traditions of U.S. presidents vary from tennis and bowling to basketball, and that Trump is seeking to permanently enhance the presence of combat sports at the venue.
