German authorities at the Port of Hamburg have seized approximately 1.5 tons of methamphetamine (crystal meth) in one of the largest interdiction operations of this drug type in the city. The estimated value of the confiscated drugs is around 28.5 million euros. The operation began in May 2026 after suspicions arose regarding containers arriving from Pakistan. It was discovered that the shipment, which contained bags of rice, was being used to conceal the drugs. Authorities found the crystalline substance inside the bags through X-ray scans, and rapid tests as well as laboratory analyses confirmed that they were narcotics. The identities of those responsible for the shipment remain unknown, and an investigation is ongoing. This case is considered one of the largest drug seizure operations at the Port of Hamburg, one of Europe's most important ports in the fight against drug smuggling.
