The "Silk Link" project, implemented by the Saudi-based STC Group at a cost nearing one billion dollars, aims to transform Syria into a major hub for data transfer between Asia and Europe. This will be achieved through the construction of a 4,500-kilometer fiber optic network connecting the Syrian coast to Jordan and Saudi Arabia, and linking to international cable networks. The project also includes the establishment of five data centers at maritime landing stations along the Syrian coast, which will reduce data transmission times by approximately 30 milliseconds compared to current routes, and enhance Syria's position as a strategic digital corridor. In addition to its international role, the project seeks to develop the country's internal telecommunications infrastructure through a modern national network, lending Syria geopolitical significance and a competitive edge in the regional telecommunications market.
